Luminance is an all-ages multimedia Winter Solstice celebration of cultural diversity that includes film, dance performance, live music and drumming, original electronic music producers, DJs, live visionary art, and much more. The evening begins at 9:00pm with the film Sound of the Soul presented by Black Cat; a vivid portrait of Morocco's Fez Festival of World Sacred Music. In a world polarized by religious conflicts and fundamentalist forces, this film offers a timely and inspiring cinematic journey, reverberating with unity, understanding, and hope. Luna and DJ Solus of Ekstasis Dance lead a Solstice dance ritual, a celebratory way to dance through the darkness and call back the light. Followed by live music to move body and soul: deep and dynamic dance music, tribal grooves on drums, flutes, world percussion, with Pepe Danza and Navaro Franco. Dance to original electronica from Bluetech, coming up from Portland for a two-hour live set. Also appearing DJ Michael Manahan, co-founder of Seattle's Oracle Gatherings, DJ Delvin from Elphinstone, plus live visionary art, dance performance, and more. Scotiabank Dance Centre, 677 Davie St. Doors at 8:30pm, music until 5:00am. $25 advance at Highlife, Zulu; $35 @ the door. More info from 1-604-886-2780 or 1-604-885-6688 (Roberts Creek).
