After the exceptional success of the inaugural First Night in Surrey last New Year's Eve, the province's Second City is planning another night of fun, frivolity and fiesta. Thousands jammed Central City Plaza and the Central City Shopping Centre last Dec. 31 for a night of entertainment, magic, cosmic skating (I kid you not!), ice sculptures and more. All of those features are planned for the second annual affair at the same site. The event features two Midnight countdowns—the usual 12 midnight with fireworks, of course, as well as a 9 pm for the small fry to celebrate the tradition. Volunteers from Surrey number in the hundreds for the event, which is sponsored by the City and the Whalley Business Improvement Association. More information is available at whalleybia.com or surrey.ca. The non-alcohol event centres around King George Highway at 102nd St.
