Is there a sci-fi movie out there I missed? After all, shouldn’t someone by now have captured our imaginations with the tale of a parallel planet to Earth called, perhaps, HaHaWeDidItBetter-ThanYou.
Planet HaHa might have gotten off on a different foot by, for example, assigning an eco-coach to every babe slipping out of the womb. Imagine each of us being raised with a wise old guru giving direction as our lives unfolded. “Little Rebecca, if you turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth, we’ll forever have clean water to drink.” “Teenage Rebecca, that bike you’re riding keeps you fit and the air you breathe forever pristine.” “Adult Rebecca, by working for a company that sets careful conservation policies—you’re forever assuring a vital, verdant planet.” “Revered elder Rebecca, it’s time for you to be assigned as an eco-coach to one of our newborns.” The entire cycle of eco-consciousness would be complete and begin anew. As well, our senior citizens would be honoured for the fine work they’ve done, which would nurture family units as healthy and vibrant as Earth itself.
To be sure, there’d be a bunch of subplots and a love interest of course. (I’m thinking I’d play myself —I have a few ideas for a leading man. But never mind that.) The nail biter would be that Earth, realizing it’s hurdling toward becoming a massive clear-cut, sewage cocktail discovers its conscience and becomes clean and sober in the nick of time. So then Planet HaHa doesn’t have anything over us. We both end up at the same point—it’s just that we Earthlings took the long way of getting there. It would be a real edge-of-the-seat thriller with a Hollywood ending (let’s make that Hollywood North ending).
Fact is, putting HaHa aside, the plot twist with Earth feels very real here in BC. We’ve got a green conscience and a collective mindset to make it right … We have innovators at every turn offering us a parallel approach to doing it differently and better. Many of them will be sharing their ideas at EPIC, the remarkable Sustainable Living Expo in mid-March (check-out epicvancouver.com). A show you won’t want to miss!
And, of course, there’s SharedVISION—as you know we’re all about offering solutions for creating thoughtful and meaningful living. Call us a one-stop shopping resource with the best approaches to helping you relate to the world, whether it’s personal development, optimal health or nurturing the planet. This month, we’ve created our own version of a parallel planet—call it the parallel penthouse.
Additionally, mark your calendar to attend SharedVISION’s entertaining and informative “Ethical Evening Event” February 15th.
Transitions
With the new year comes a time of transitions. We welcome our new managing editor, Kathy Sinclair, to the SharedVISION team and wish Michael Gordon our warmest wishes as he continues to follow his bliss. As well, our graphic design goddess, Teresa Lynne, sets out on new endeavors while her successor Bruce Skipper so ably takes over driving our creative department. It’s all good. It’s all a SharedVISION.
In gratitude,
Rebecca
