Here's to Green Drinks

You’re itching to meet other people passionate about the environment, but chaining yourself to a tree just isn’t cutting it (so to speak). For a gentler approach, head to the next Green drinks event Jan. 16 at steamworks for a pint of organic suds and the chance to connect with activists, engineers, artists, businesspeople, media types, politicos, and regular folk—all with a common aim. To learn more about Green drinks, a non-partisan, informal monthly gathering, e-mail greendrinksvancouver@yahoo.ca. In the meantime, check out some of the movers and shakers who showed up at a recent Green drinks event.

Shaker: steve Carley, sustainability analyst, The ethical Funds Company. Mission: “I’m interested in meeting someone working in, or who has a lot of knowledge in, the area surrounding water rights and water issues.” Contact steve at 604-714-3837.
Mover: amanda Brown, executive assistant and press secretary for adrienne Carr (deputy leader, Green Party of Canada). Mission: To disseminate the news about the Green Party’s new platform, Vision Green. “It’s fantastic. It’s things that average Canadians want on a lot of different issues—from the environment, to health care, to food and business, to economic concerns.” see greenparty.ca to learn more about Vision Green.
Shaker: The Frog, host of happyfrog.ca. Mission: To invite people to join a fresh and fun interactive online community that makes it super easy to find and share all the great things in Vancouver that make our city a little kinder, smarter, healthier, and greener. Green businesses can list for free. Hop on at happyfrog.ca.
Movers: (left) danielle Gillis, The honey Mustard Fashion and Media services, and Fashion high; Christi York, Fashion high and Buenostyle. Mission: To spread the word about Fashion high, a sustainable fashion non-profit organization, and encourage shoppers to buy locally. see fashionhigh.ca, buenodesign. ca, thehoneymustard.com.
Shaker: Tannis Larsen, teacher. Mission: “I’m looking to find other people who teach environmental issues in the classroom and try to make their schools greener.” Ulterior motive: “I’m also hoping that it’s a meet market!” schmooze Tannis at the next Green drinks event.
