How they met: Learning to run a marathon. “We finished the clinic and did the actual marathon, and we went our separate ways,” Jesse recalls. “But I gave her a phone call later that summer and it kind of went from there.”

Jesse on Tanya: “She does everything! She has this thirst to help and be of use to people. Just having her around [at Pacific Permaculture], she’s already put herself into a position where she’s not thinking of herself first; she’s thinking of what other people need.”

Bragging rights: “She’s got this ability to be strong no matter what. There’s this strong, quiet confidence that she has.”

If you could change one thing about Tanya, it would be… “That’s a tough one. That’s not even fair! But she’s a little too critical of herself. She needs to lighten up on herself a bit.”

Tanya on Jesse: “He’s done a lot of hands-on things all across the world, so he’s not just talking from something that he’s read. We think it’s important because of the way the world is changing. People feel negative about the future and they don’t feel that they have the capacity to change or do the things that are necessary to help the environment. Jesse gives people that encouragement, that knowledge, so they know they understand that they’re completely capable of making the changes that are necessary.”

Bragging rights: “He’s just so kind to other people. I feel good about being with him because he’s so good to others.”

If you could change one thing about jesse, it would be… “He does so much for everybody. Just taking more time for himself, maybe.”
