‘The Urban Green’ is teaming up with ‘Dr. Recycle’ for a fun-filled family event on Saturday, April 14, 2007.

The Urban Green is a group of families that have committed to building an environmentally and socially sustainable community in North Delta, BC. The group values recycling as an important component in its approach to the construction and ongoing operation of the community. It also recognizes that such goals are most successful within the context of a community that supports environmentally sustainable practices. ‘The Urban Green’ group has no difficulty finding fun and rewarding ways to work towards a more sustainable future!

Dr. Recycle works with children of all ages demonstrating creative ways that household junk can be turned into a wide variety of toys and crafts. ‘Dr. Recycle’, otherwise known as Oliver Samonte, grew up poor in the Philippines and learned early the art of creative recycling. His engineering background, his passion for recycling, and his extensive work with children has made him a popular presenter at schools and conventions. In addition to his presentations and workshops, Oliver has written two books and invented a board game that helps children think of simple ways to help the environment. Oliver refers to his educational approach as “The TLC Formula” – Think, Laugh and Create. His workshop promises to be inspiring.

This family event takes place April 14, 2007 at the Newton Family Resource Centre (NFRC), 6878 King George Highway, Surrey. The NFRC has plenty of toys and activities for children aged 0-5, and Dr. Recycle will lead the program for children 5+. The program will run 3-5pm, and The Urban Green will host a simple meal from 5-6:30. Families are welcome to attend the program, the meal, or both. Registration is free, but required.
