The environment, consumerism and social justice are at the heart of Judith Marcuse’s thrilling interdisciplinary show EARTH=home, which returns to Vancouver following an extensive tour across Canada. Entertaining, provocative and fast-paced, the work is a fable for our times, incorporating music, theatre, dance and multimedia technology to express young peoples’ thoughts and feelings about the state of our planet and where we are taking it. Each performance is followed by a facilitated talkback.

EARTH=home is based on three years of arts workshops with young people from diverse communities as far afield as Japan and Pakistan. Featuring a cast of nine, along with video projections, photographs and text, it traces the story of a group of strangers who are forced to find a way to live together in a surreal world of limited resources. EARTH=home premiered at EARTH: The World Urban Festival (produced by Judith Marcuse Projects) during the UN’s World Urban Forum in Vancouver in summer 2006. In spring 2009 the production will play to an estimated 35,000 young people in cities across Canada including Toronto, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Regina, Vernon and Nanaimo.

Performance dates and times: Thursday April 23 at 12 noon, and Saturday April 25 at 2pm. Tickets from 604 684 2787 www.ticketstonight.ca. Info 604 606 6400 www.thedancecentre.ca.
