How they met: “We like to say that we met online,” says
Alexandra, “but it was actually a three-way IM (instant
messaging) conversation with a mutual friend.”
Rob on Alexandra: “Alex is one of those rare individuals
who can generate an idea that later seems inevitable,
break it down into manageable steps, and then transfer
her energy and enthusiasm to others to help accomplish it.”
Bragging Rights: “While my parents were terminally ill,
Alex and our baby came to Ontario with me. During all
this emotional turmoil and having a very new baby, Alex
managed to focus herself and finish her Harvard PhD thesis
[in “hacktevism”: politically motivated computer hacking].
She was so dedicated and this focus is why she can accom-
plish the kinds of things she does.”
If I could change one thing about Alexandra, it would
be… “I would give her the power to inject as many
hours into a day as she would like to have; I’ve
seen what she can do in 24 hours—I can only
imagine what she could do in a 72-hour day.”
Alexandra on Rob: “Rob is the most polymorph-
ically creative person I’ve ever met. He writes,
he sings, he does visual art, and even stand-up
comedy—my very own three-ring circus.”
Bragging Rights: “In 2004, months after we’d
had our first child, both his parents were diagnosed
with different terminal cancers just weeks apart. Rob
rushed to their sides, and the bravery, strength, and
compassion he showed while caring for them in their
last days was incredible and inspiring.”
If I could change one thing about Rob, it would be… “There are moments in life that do not require a one-liner!”
