WHERE PEOPLE FEAST: AN INDIGENOUS PEOPLE’S COOKBOOK by Dolly and Annie Watts (Arsenal Pulp Press, $25) Italians have pizza, Americans have burgers and fries, the Irish have Guinness…and Canadians? Are we known only for pancakes and maple syrup? Not anymore. The mother-daughter team who ran the Liliget Feast House (Vancouver’s First Nations fine-dining restaurant) share traditional and modern West Coast aboriginal recipes, including methods for smoking and drying wild game, preparing seafood, and preserving berries. The original 100-mile diet!

LILLY AND LUCY’S SHADOW by Christopher Aslan Kennedy (Benjamin Brown Books, $20) This iParenting Media Award-winner is a rhythmic tale of two crazy-haired girls who encounter their shadows while playing in the park. Instead of running away, they muster the courage to face their fear while making a simple choice that will warm your heart. A wonderful story to remind us that fear isn’t so scary after all. The first in a series exploring themes of self-acceptance, inner courage, and independence of spirit.

MEGATRENDS 2010: THE RISE OF CONSCIOUS CAPITALISM by Patricia Aburdene (Hampton Roads, $17) Business is in the midst of a profound transformation, argues former Forbes staffer Aburdene, creating a new era that goes far beyond corporate social responsibility. Spirituality, environmental stewardship, and personal integrity are reshaping corporations. Read about executives from companies that give back (including Hewlett-Packard, Eileen Fisher, and TELUS Mobility), and as a result, Aburdene argues, consistently outperform others, as well as their conscientious consumers.
